So I just got my copy of the Game Informer magazine today and they had an article titled ...

"Nintendo's software problem"

Now I don't want to make this out for more than the article really is about, but I think it begs the question. When will we (no pun intended) ever see the Wii get decent third party games?

This isn't to bash any sytem or anybody, but it is something to bear in mind as we are continuing to plow through this generation with game after game seemingly lacking in quality (<--- in my opinion).

Here are some excerpts (non-verbatim .. so as to not make it my own interpretation)

"While third-party developers have praised the Wii as being easy to develop for, this and the the fact that many Wii owners are casual first-time gamers might have the unwanted residual effect of cheaply made games being rushed to market strictly to take advantage of the consumers."

"..., according to industry sources, Nintendo does not have a concept approval pahse for third-party games."
(just in case anyone needs to know .. concept approval)
"Concept approval is a process in place both Microsoft and Sony where the console maker green-lights a project after checking to make sure it fits into their general plan. ... to make sure that the game isn't jumping into an over-saturated genre on the system."

The article also delved into some pretty interesting statistics regarding reviews for Wii games compared to the PS3 and 360.
"Number of Wii games scoring 50 or under on Metacritic: 74 out of 172. Number of PS3 games in the same category: 26 out of 150

So this compared to the PS3's 17 percent of their games scored badly 41 percent of the Wii third-party games are rated low.

Now here is my take, because I know it's pretty obvious that the Wii (although is still selling well), it still has some very obvious deficiencies. However, I think many people know it is capable of being the innovative "non-gimmicky" toy we all want it to be.

I hope, for Nintendo's sake, something can be done with this "shovelware" as the article so subtly named the lackluster games on the Wii. Tell me what you guys think

I've been totally dissatisfied with my Wii system since i bought it. Wii sports i think is fun because it is what it is and it was free.

So far I have bought Red steel, okami, lego star wars the complete saga, and i think a couple others.... Wii Play being one of them..

Still, with having those, Wii sports is still funner to me. The lacking implementation of the wiimote and nunchuk on certain games and then the over sensitive and awkward implementation on other games, really ruins the system for me..

I should have stuck with my original opinion on the controller, before the Wii was released..... That they wouldn't make it work for someone like me, that demands precision. It [controller] feels like other companies past failed attempts at making similar controllers... It works maybe 70-80% of the time on wii sports with 40-50% of the games on there, and not even precise, but just enough to get it to do what it's supposed to do.. And no i'm not swinging the controller around like an idiot, I understand how the controller was made and how it works, it just doesn't work good enough, for me anyway.

Come on Nintendo, you're helping me, with every day that goes by, loosen my grip on giving a crap about you.

And also, They need to lower the price on Virtual console games and Wii Ware titles, as well as allowing you to keep your credit information saved. Even then, not sure how interested I am in caring too much about the system if I feel the titles I have played are junk. And before you say it, I hate the smash brothers series, so don't suggest it.

SMgalaxy I have yet to play, and I know it'll be semi fun to me....
Mario kart........ lets just say i'd rather be playing drug fueled binges of wipeout... (literally). So not interested in teh Kart.
um...what else. Zelda? Not really a fan..

So that leaves me with quirky titles like Wiiplay right? I choose not to play games that are on 360 and Wii, because the 360 versions are, development wise, vastly superior in control and other things. So what do I do? Sell my Wii? it's basically a gamecube for me, seeing as I still play Phantasy star online "plus" from time to time offline. Watching my wife play okami for the Wii right now, dont know how i feel.

jaded.

But as experience would have it you don't have this incessant wait on the titles. I'm sure the Wii was catered to be more family oriented, however, it leaves the average gamer expecting more, it seems.

I have a problem with that, so it allows me to actually appreciate a bit of the wait on some of the games I truly look forward to playing like Little Big Planet,Prototype, and Killzone on my PS3.

The Wii still has much to be desired and I'm hoping the control scheme can be made more of use for, I'd actually consider buying it, if more developers can take the time and find innovative ways of using the nunchuck and such. At the moment, it is very gimmicky and this business model of releasing games fast and cashing in on this "strike-while-the-iron-is-hot" console will kill this generation of a Nintendo system very very quickly.

You should have kept your PSP digi, Wipeout was the one game you invested your time and efforts on.

Yeah i wanna play the new one.

You know I thought about this a little more. But I think if the Nintendo had games were slightly more innovative and used the nunchuck alot more, I think those games will go the way of the PS3. Taking more time and increasing the delays. Otherwise, I think for lack of better implementation they don't want to chase away the core gamers as well.

Come to think of it, they really have not come out with alot of games within the last 3 years. Not alot that are good anyway.
WOW hmm and this generation is already halfway over.

What an epic fail this generation has been.

anybody hear of untold legends fr psp
