i did everything in the video about changing my nat type but it did not work my nat type is 3 and how do i change that to a 2 or 1

there are many type up tutorials having to do with this....
heres a helpgful link link its a very lengthy process...but i still dont seem to know WHY its necessary..i have a NAT 3 at the moment. and i have 2 laptops connected over wifi, i use my psp, DS lite, 360, and PS3 with the same network...and i have NO problem with it...everything works fine.
