thread title should of course read AUGUST NPD and NOT july NPD... these are figures for AUGUST

Even without Halo3 the 360 has destroyed the PS3 in July, selling more than DOUBLE the amount of hardware:

Nintendo Wii: 403.6K (4 million total)
Nintendo DS: 383.3K (12.7 million total)
Microsoft Xbox 360: 276.7K (6.3 million)
Sony PlayStation 2: 202K (39.1 million total)
Sony PSP: 151.2K (8.3 million total)
Sony PlayStation 3: 130.6K (1.75 million total)

Also, only 1 PS3 game hit the top 20 games sold and that was a multi-platform release of EA's Madden, while Madden on the 360 was only 100k short of selling 1million copies. Bioshock sold 490k in 2 weeks in the USA alone.

The PS3 game 'Lair' which didnt make the top 20, only sold 45k, while Warhawk which is elegible for chart inclusion from dload AND retail isn't even on the list.

1. Madden NFL 08 (Xbox 360) -- 896.6K
2. Madden NFL 08 (PS2) -- 643.6K
3. BioShock (Xbox 360) -- 490.9K
4. Madden NFL 08 (PS3) -- 336.2K
5. Wii Play/ w remote (Wii) -- 256.8K
6. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (Wii) -- 218.1K
7. Mario Strikers Charged (Wii) -- 147.4K
8. Guitar Hero 2 w/guitar (PS2) -- 145.4K
9. Mario Party 8 (Wii) -- 138.3K
10. Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s (PS2) -- 127.1K
11. Madden NFL 08 (Xbox)
12. Madden NFL 08 (Wii)
13. Brain Age 2: More Training in Minutes a Day (DS)
14. Two Worlds (Xbox 360)
15. Pokémon Diamond (DS)
16. High School Musical: Making the Cut (DS)
17. Guitar Hero 2 w/guitar (360)
18. Madden NFL 08 (PSP)
19. Pokémon Pearl (DS)
20. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 (Xbox 360)

It's funny that the ps2 kills all other consoles put together.

what are you on about ?the PS2 didn't sell as many consoles as MS or Nintendo. if you mean the 39.1million sold in the USA, thats because its been on sale for 7 years.. dont be stupid.

also, perhaps more significantly, the PS2 version of Madden was outsold by the 360 version. So the PS2 with a 39.1million install base (in the USA) got outsold by the 360 with an 6.3million install base (in the USA)... just think about that.

it shows that people are actually starting to move on to next gen from PS2 .. and it also shows that they arent jumping to PS3 but to 360.

Yeah, I was actually going to comment on how the 360 out sold the PS2. I haven't been keeping up with the numbers, but is this the first time it was able to do so?

i think it is the second time, but not the last. looks like PS2 owners are starting to jump to 360, in the USA anyway. makes sense. how can you not when you see the games lineup and the price of the console?

PS3 sales are down 15% from last months figures just after a $100 price drop.. !!

i think you'll find its now a price increase, all the 60gb's have been sold out for 2-3weeks and so the price has gone back to the $599 80gb console only, expect another price drop for the 80gb soon.

The 360 has sold well due to Bioshock, its not a surprise at all.

I'd like to troll here for a second.... so bear with me...

The PS2 is well over 120 million units ... the next price drop is expected at 99 USD ... the next PS3 price drop will happen sometime within the next year.

This price drop and increase in PS3 potential has happened within the past year of its launch. Declare all the NPD's you want, this will all be over in the next three years. I declare PS3 the winner.

That prediction has just made me an expert analyst. Believe in my opinions only, don't believe those other paid people

Microsoft Responds to August NPD
The 360 was the only console to see a sales increase last month.

US, September 14, 2007 - Last month saw Nintendo sitting pretty in terms of hardware, but Microsoft had the number one and number three best-selling games. As it is known to do, the house of Xbox released a statement last evening on last month's sales.

Microsoft is a "glass half full" kind of company, so when it looks at sales data it just sees the good stuff. For instance, even though it doesn't have the best-selling console, Xbox 360 sales were up 63 percent over July and 35 percent over August 2006. Microsoft points out that PlayStation 3 sales saw an 18 percent decline and the Wii, although it is still number one in sales, saw a five percent drop. The 360 is currently out-selling the PS3 by more than 2:1.

Software sales on the 360 were more than the Wii and PS3 combined, but of course it has a larger installed base than Nintendo and Sony's latest consoles. Since last November when the Wii and PS3 arrived, gamers have spent more of their cash on 360 software ($24.3 million) than the other two systems combined ($19.8 million).

funny, NEWshound is also a "glass half full" kind of guy, so when 'he' looks at sales data 'he' just sees the good stuff (XBox360).

seriously man, give it a rest, you are startiung to sound like an old record stuck on repeat

erm.. 360 forum.. posting the official MS response regarding the NPD figures for the 360.. whats your problem ?

please point out the 'bad stuff ' regarding the august NPD for the xbox ? even the xbox1 outsold the Wii on Madden 08. please.. point out where the glass is half empty regarding this data ? just becasue the Wii sold more consoles ? the 360 sales are all massively up across the board for games, consoles and accessories.. how is this bad news ?

because as usual the focus is on MS doing well in 'one' territory and ignore the rest of the world (yes, I know these are NPD figures), i bet you now that the 'global' figure for hardware sales it is very close between the PS3 and the 360 (in fact if you believe 1UP then the global figure actually puts PS3 ahead for monthly sales). Its the type of stuff MS loves to spout about, concentrate on only the good and hopefully the bad doesnt exist (console returns, japan/european hardware sales, massive losses to their game division etc.). I was agreeing with what you quoted, they only see the good stuff (and so do you)
