The goal is to understand protein folding, misfolding, and related diseases.
What is protein folding and how is folding linked to disease?
Proteins are biology's workhorses -- its "nanomachines." Before proteins can carry out these important functions, they assemble themselves, or "fold." The process of protein folding, while critical and fundamental to virtually all of biology, in many ways remains a mystery.
Moreover, when proteins do not fold correctly (i.e. "misfold" ), there can be serious consequences, including many well known diseases, such as Alzheimer's, Mad Cow (BSE), CJD, ALS, Huntington's, Parkinson's disease, and many Cancers and cancer-related syndromes.
You can help by simply running a piece of software.
Folding@Home is a distributed computing project -- people from through out the world download and run software to band together to make one of the largest supercomputers in the world. Every computer makes the project closer to our goals.
Folding@Home uses novel computational methods coupled to distributed computing, to simulate problems thousands to millions of times more challenging than previously achieved.

I've added 3 PC clients to my name, so that should improve us a good bit. 2 are largeer servers that are up 24/7. Maybe the top 800 isnt that far away.

Hey ... just a thought, but seeing that not a mention of the person that started it is even placed on the blog ... tell me if I'm wrong but jonathan hasn't gotten any credit for initiating the team. Also you should point out the team captain started. Maybe it's too late, or I was just foolish in pointing this out. But there should be some credit due....

I just built the team so we could have our own place and help out anyway we can. I cant help out as much as yoyopete as i dont have internet at my house and i just connect the PS3 whenever i have my sprint wireless card on my laptop (thats how i get internet). I am happy that the team is doing good and that a lot of people are helping on this good cause, i dont mind if i am not mentioned as i dont do much for the team. Also i just would like to congratulate all the people that are helping out and are folding, also special thanks to captain as if it wasnt for him there wouldnt be a gamer411 site and a folding@home team.

I gave jonathan credit for starting the team ni the thread post. (Sorry I didnt do that earlier.) I just reorganized it in a way to answer most of the questions and link to stats and all that good stuff.
Captain did start a team not realizing jonathan started one a bit sooner and we had already has work units completed. He made the call to allow jonathans team to be the official team as there is no real reason not to. It's got the logo and everything.
I link to my stats simply as an example as I'm a heavy folder and wanted to show what the personal stats looked like, to hopefully get more interest to our team.

hmm... hey just a question, I don't know how my score is so high. But it says "Attempting to retrieve packet". But when I click on my little icon the Display screen shows that I can't download a packet. I don't know if it has anything to do with having the option i chose for deadlineless folding. But anyway just thought I'd ask.
