The Nintendo DS is outshipping Sony's PSP in Japan by almost three-to-one.
Sony had shipped a total of five million units to Japan by the end of January, according to SCE spokesperson Satoshi Fukuoka, reports Bloomberg. The latest figures from Nintendo Japan suggest the DS has shipped 14.4 million units in the region since launch in December 2004.
This week Sony's UK boss Ray Maguire confirmed that a redesigned PSP is currently on the drawing boards, with a "smaller, lighter" handheld to be introduced in the future.

They still make the bigger one....
But the numbers are completly biased... Well not the numbers... More like the culture.
In Japan, Nintendo is a way of life practically.

That's the reason I left nintendo handhelds for Sony's. Game catalog. SNES style games, lame interactive games, compared to PS1/PS2 style gaming on the PS3. It's just a culture thing.

the japanese love the ds, because they love nintendo and the nintendo style of handheld games. japan is the reason the ds is ahead of the psp. thats why they always talk about japan when it comes to psp vs ds sells.

well this show the ds vs the gba in the usa link
this one is the ds vs psp in the usa. the psp is ahead in its 23 months than the when the ds was in its 23 months. but the ds did jump up alot in its last few months. link
and this is ps2 vs ps3. and if you look the ps3 is doing just as good as the ps2 in its first few months out link
and this is the xbox vs 360. the 360 starts off bad vs the xb but picks up over the summer and is ahead of the xb a little. link
