hmm GREAT review...ive heard ALOT about this game...but i never really gave it a chance and after this review i might try it out...thnx for posting
I've had Monster Hunter Freedom for a while (about a year or so) and I have had some fun with it, but I never played it for a while. Does anyone know why? Because of the awkward control scheme. Everything is going fine for the first few things but when you get in to your first real hunt, the controls can really make things much more challenging.

Well, before I get to the cons, I'll talk about the good points of the game:
+The very first thing you notice when you start playing the game is how beautiful the graphics are for a PSP game. They may not be as impressive as, say Daxter, but Capcom has been able to keep the original's graphics on a weaker system and that is worthy of praise.
+I also like the farming mini-games you can do to get resources. They reminded me of Harvest Moon's gathering tasks.
+The sheer length of the game is one of its greatest strengths. There are soooooo many hunts you can do it's nerve-wracking how they could fit all of this on a single UMD.

Now for the part every fan hates to see in a review...THE CONS:
-I hate to sound like a broken record, but one of the things that made me play the game less than I would've was the unusual control scheme. It just got so difficult to fight both the monsters and the controls that the game feels unbeatable. The sad thing is that since this is a port of the PS2 original, I don't think they could've done any better with the controls.
-Another thing that annoyed me was using items during hunts. If you want to heal yourself you pick the potion and you spend around 8 seconds just going through the animation to heal yourself. In those 8 seconds you can easily be pummeled to a bloody pulp. See where my annoyance is?
-No infrastructure support is also a bad point for Monster Hunter. It's not a major loss, but it is unusual there is not support for it even though there was in the original.
===========================================
Overall I had a 'meh' experience with the game. I'm sure I would've been much more in to it if it hadn't been for those stupid controls!! I just could not make it through the later hunts with that weird scheme.
Well, it should be commended for its graphics, length/replay value, and variety but the basic hunting mechanics will be hard to overcome. If you can overcome them, you should have no problem enjoying this game but for casual players who just want some instant fun with no strings attached I wouldn't recommend it.
For people who don't want to read all of the preceding text, here's my score:
6.5 out of 10
