Kitaue doubts sales will improve significantly

Konami believes that the USD 100 price cut of the PlayStation 3 won't significantly improve sales of the home console and as a result the latest Metal Gear Solid title may not remain exclusive to the format.

"I wonder if Sony can win back user support by the price cut of just $100," said Kazumi Kitaue, head of Konami's North American and European operations, speaking to Reuters.

"I don't expect a substantial impact... With $500, you can buy a personal computer," he said. Although the latest title in Konami's leading action franchise Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is currently a PlayStation 3 exclusive, Kitaue indicated that the company may consider releasing it on other formats to help recoup development costs.

"Since Metal Gear was born on the PlayStation, we would like to keep it a PlayStation game. But we might have to take some steps," he said.

That's the #1 problem we are facing right now in the PS3 camp... Developer support may not be 100% as the market share is still growing.

Hopefully, the price cut will help that, but only time will tell.

I was reading the comments on kotaku (which normally they bash the PS3) on the killzone 2 trailer. They were blown away that i saw quite a bunch of people mentioning that would be a reason of buying a PS3. Of course not everyone will buy a PS3, but my point is that with the price cut, the Killzone 2 trailer and who know what other surprises we will see at the conference Sony might improve on their sales and a lot of people might take a look at other games like Heavenly Sword, Lair, MGS4, and will buy a PS3 by this x-mas.

Yeah, the main reason the PS3's losing exclusives is that the install base and sales are too low to make exclusive development worthwhile. Developers need to release on multiple platforms to turn a profit. Sucks, doesn't it? Still, exclusives cause some really retarded arguments anyway...

This is what chafes me. The business people at these companies expect to much and when what is really expected happens, then they get all antsy. What were they expecting...200million units sold in the first weak? I mean, heck look at Apples iPhone sales. They sold 270,000 iPhones that first weak and they are still selling. But because A: they did not sell 500,000 units and B: Apple planed ahead and had plenty of units of the shelves for people to buy. The news and annalists are calling it a flop. GIVE ME A BREAK!!!

Sorry...It is just that these people are fools. You cqan not expect a new platform to have 100 titles and no bugs from the start. If you make those expectations along with 10million installed units before the system is released. Then you deserve to be dragged into the street and shot in the head a couple times. The gene pool is murky, it is time to use chlorine!
