My first real on-line gaming experience was on the PSP. I picked up SOCOM Fire Team Bravo and loved it.

What happened was people exploted the PSP and created ways to hack the game. Basically they send extra data in the stream from game system to game server. Game rules are all on the gaming system. So by making your system go outside of the rules, the server allows in and then in game you have results that can give the cheater an advantage.

In the PSP community, we could do nothing to stop it because there is no account information in the games. Anyone can simply make a new account in the game so there is no way to ban cheating player.

Well with the PS3, there is 1 account (more or less). So if someone is a cheater, complaints can be followed up on and actions can be taken against them. If a player is bad, they can be removed from the PS3 network (PSN).

The difference with the PS3 is that it sends it's MAC address along with the data. So Sony can actually ban a specific PS3. It's above the account level as you could just register a new account to an address if they ban the account, but by banning the PS3 device specifically, the cheater can be removed from the PSN perminatly.

Now with all of that, before you make a report, you should be sure that the person really is cheating. However, game data is cached for a bit, so it can be reviewed and they can tell what really happened. you just dont want to upset other players by calling them cheat when they are not. Sometimes someone is just real hot. Happens to me from time to time.

But use the form. The more complaints Sony gets, the more actions they will have to take against the problem.

It all confuses me. I can see the fun of 'cheating' for about 5 mins.. then it'd get old. It's ALOT more fun to actually play fair. You get a sense of accomplishment and develope an actual skill at a game <by the way.. I'll take ANY of you in Halo CE > .. I do like 'glitching' to see what you can do that falls outside the rules of the 'world' you're playing in..but to use those glitches for an advantage is really childish and boring. That is one of the cool things on Halo.. alot of games are made JUST to test out glitches/stunts. I'm really glad to see a console developer taking this problem seriously. It'll be nice to be able to see someone who's ruining everyone elses fun get their just deserts for once . Good blog topic Yo.. Peace.

Thankis Chace...

Yeah... I mean it's fun to glitch. Running around in Blue Hell in GTA, flying the chpper under the mansion, it was fun to explore the unknown. It's neat to see how the game handles things when you go beyond it's bounds.

But like you said, that stuff should not be used when playing competativly. I mean who wants to go play poker when a guy can see what's in your hand but you cant see what's in his. Same thing for cheating in on-line games.

When I win, it's beacuse I'm a player. Not because I know how to cheat. I mean we could all figure it out and do that but it's just not right. Gaming is about knowing when to hit the buttons, and how much to hit them. Gaming is not about downloading things from the net that give you an extra edge to win. That's what cheating is all about. See the difference. :P

Is it possible to cheat on the ps3/360? Aside from glitches..? I thought the games were on a new level now, with patches being released every day..

Where there is a will, there's a way. They are working on things, but there's a lot more people trying to figure out work arounds.

Yo.. I was trying to play Socom II with my brother last night. He was having mic issues and we were trying to get into a game to test it out, and just have some fun. Problem is... the only game we found where people were actually PLAYING had a cheat in it. It made it no fun at all and impossible to even TRY to have fun. If you saw him, you died. Nobody wanted to quit, due to ruining their player rating. So it became 15 mins of watching a guy behave like a giant ass. I couldn't help but think of your thread here and wonder WHY.

My older bro lives 1500 miles from me and is having issues getting his mic to work in Socom. His mic light lights up when he's in game and hes got it all plugged in correctly and he can hear ME, so Im thinking it must be some software issue on his end or somthing with his router? Can anyone enlighten me on ideas to fix it? Thanks in advance. <message me if you want> Peace.

Yeah, I just don't see the point. Try playing Halo2. Once you get to level 32+, at least 2/3 of the games are with cheaters. It sucks.
