Hmm I made this fall under PSP and Reviews. Hopefully the mod can fix this.
So I got this game about two weeks ago.
First of all I had the first monster hunter game, but returned it, because I really had no one to play with. But now that I have people to play it with, I decided to give the second one a try.
One thing you always have to remember when buying a game, as much as you like the game, you always need someone to play with. I made that mistake the first time.
But anyway, with that out of the way let me go on talking a littmore about this game
The story goes, that a retired Hunter is living a village in the mountains called Pokke Village. he sends for a replacement. YOU are his replacement. It is dark and a snowstorm has kicked in. Hiking through the mountain you see many carcasses on the ground and wonder who or what could have killed that many. Soon you hear a roar and a it's a Wyvern (dragon), everything is happening so fast, all you can think of is trying to fend for yourself but your at the edge of a cliff. The Wyvern pounces and tries to break your guard, instad you leap back and fall down the mountainside. Fortunately, you are asaved and brought into the village, where you will master basic skills on a variety of weapons, and earn your title as a Monster Hunter.
Simple story, right? But as for the actual gameplay, if you are a fan of RPGs in general, don't bother asking, just get this game.
There are no broken controls because it is the same mechanics as the first one. the skills required for each task vary from indivduals. Even at the first level, though you think you mastered any particular weapon, it might not always work from creature to creature. However, that is the end of the list for things that can be frustrating when you play the game.
Gameplay
You will make use of the directional buttons alot throughout the game. However, during an intense creature battle you will find that the up and down directions tend to become a chore in correcting your camera views. Other than that you will enjoy every moment of dodging, shooting, and running away to boost your life bar from the damage you will take on.
About the sprinting and the stamina bar. You will see a yellow insignia next your name, it means you are intimidated by the creature, rather than a normal sprint, your character high steps and your stamina bar goes down faster. When you try to evade an attack while running you will perfrom a belly flop, or "Miracle Dive". This move proves very usefull espcially against the much bigger creatures with big feet.
Multiplayer
If you've played Tekken on the PSP with your friends from across the room, expect the same when playing this game. No frame drops during creature fights, but if your friends has the Phat PSP and you have the slim one, expect a slight delay on your side of load. You can move around, but you won't see your buddy move, only for a second. that's where the delay ends, everything is very smooth.
Overall, this is the best value for your money in terms of length and gameplay. This really is holding me off of any other PSP game that will come out until GoW comes out. By then, I should be through most of the game, and unlocked alot of the awards.
