PS3: Johnson10
I've been debating for a long time whether or not to install custom firmware and I have finally decided that I want to. I just don't know where to start. I know that there are quite a few people that visit this site that are familiar with the psp hacking scene. I have a fat psp with the newest official firmware, two memory sticks and one battery. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

yup. But be careful. Either solder it, or buy another battery, because it wont be usable if you just cut the wire like i did. heh.
DONT TOUCH ANY OTHER WIRE WITH METAL!
-.-
my friend did that, and his batt. had a meltdown. xD so i just let him use my stuff. Don't get the new fw like 3.90m33 because you can't do a whole lotta h0m3br3w. 3.80m33 is what i had, and it was the best imo.
PSPTube and ir remote are some good apps to get ya started. if you want a custom theme, use CTF because the flash0 stuff is hard..>_>
It's pretty easy though, but ive been doing it for..3 years :P

Before I even try to get a battery I still have a couple questions. Will I still be able to do remote play with my PS3? Does DarkAlex update every time a major Sony firmware is released? Will I be able to switch back to Sony firmware if I need/want to?

1)I dont know, i don't have a ps3, but i don't see why not. its regular firmware, but the security's gone.
2)Pretty much. but he doesnt release them as SOON as they're released.
3)Of course. but i dont see why you'd need/want to :P

I didn't realize that it's basically the same firmware. Thats good because I really like using the remote play and use it quite often. Thanks again!

theres the hardmod Chiefillini
but idk if you can do it after you softmodded it.
Hardmod is easy, crack it open, slice a connector CAREFULLY, and thats that.
EDIT: Btw, If you want some cool stuff, add some plug-ins

Well about your trouble with the memory stick -
Download THIS video.
It clearly and very neatly shows what you to do.
Then THESE are the files you are suppose to download and use with the video I gave above.
It will take you directly to 3.80 m33-5
About not disconnection the battery.
I heard a program called "Time Machine" which does that.
Here are some videos of how to install it if you are intrested.

Alright, So I already watched zzk's videos, but my problems with those were my dos kept giving the error message. mspformat, msinst is not an executable command and so on, and then I tried the auto installer but kept getting an error at the end saying
241664 bytes(58 Block) readed
Cannot Open logical drive.
And I've tried everything on both of my pc's (XP). So don't really know what I'm doing wrong.
Btw time machine looks great, that was exactly what I was wondering, just wish i could get everything to work finally!

Could you type the error exactly?
Because if you were typing "mspformat>msinst" thats not the way. It should be "mspformat>mspformat X" (With "X" being your PSP drive letter)
And then make sure that your drive letter is also accurate! And keep your PSP in "USB Mode" when you do this.

OK I'll start from the very beginning
C:Documents and SettingME>cd..
C:Documents and Setting>cd..
C:>cd pandora
C:Pandoramspformat
C:Pandora>cd mspformat>mspformat F
Cannot open logical drive.
Then on my other computer, the error is,
logical drive contains more than a physical drive. Cannot handle it.
Both are XP SP2, ummm. does anyone think it will work on an old win 98?
