I also posted a topic like this on psp411.com, but I heard that it's more lively here so...
Well I have been trying to set up the internet connection on my PSP for the first time today for a few hours, and it just doesn't seem to work. I followed all of the steps in many different tutorials but it still doesn't connect.
These are the Network Setting steps that I followed:
Infrastructure Mode>New Connection>Scan, then I choose an SSID with None security>then I don't change anything and go through it, press X to save, but when I test the connection, it doesn't work.
These are the error messages I get when trying to set it up:
*A connection error has occurs. A connection to the access point could not be established. Check the security settings for the network then try again.
or sometimes when I use a different SSID I get to the part where it says Obtaining IP address, but then it says *A connection error has occurred. The attempt to obtain the IP address timed out.

I don't know if this will help, but the router I am using is a Lynksys. The router itself is placed in the basement of my house. Sometimes when i take my PSP upstairs and try to connect, and Scan the WLAN thingy, the signal strengths of some SSIDs get to higher numbers.

Please try and help me, I have been stuck on this stuff for several hours.
Thanks a lot.

there might be a firewall........either that, or not much of a connection

are you sure it is sending the actual internet and not just a signal, because i have the wrt54g hooked up with dsl, and whenever the power goes out or phone line goes off my psp can still recieve the signal that the router is there, but i can't get the internet, so i have to reestablish the connection on the pc by changing the ip adress and all of that.

I don't even know. I'm not really good at this stuff. All I want to do is get on the internet.

I have a linksys router too. I think sometimes what happens is you have to download a firmware for the router, I remeber it had a bug that needed to be fixed. If you have already done this, it should work. Make sure you can get online with the PC in your room, cause it could be a modem problem and that's something else entirely.

Where do I download the firmware? What will it do?

Go to the linksys website and find it... I'm not sure if you even have the same router as me. But with the one I had, when I was trying to access my router wirelessly with my PSP, it was giving me problems. I needed to have my computer on for the router to even be picked up by the WiFi scan.

Anyway, that's as far as I know. link , click the link to go to the website and find the firmware that fits your model. If there isn't one, then the only other way to go about it is reinstalling the program for the router.

If you really want to get technical, you can manually input set your wireless settings. Just check your router settings and put that information into your PSP. Hope that helps.

Thanks.

Wait, mikeike, 1 more thing. What do I do with the firmware, I mean how do I use it? I download a .zip file, and inside it is a .BIN file...what do I do?
Sorry if I'm being annoying, I just really need help.

Since you can't execute the .bin file, you will have to start up the linksys router (keep the router plugged in). Go to the IP address of your router, (i.e link not sure if it will be the same for you. You should be able to access Administration -> Firmware Upgrade-> Browse... that is where you will put the .bin file. Upgrade should be ungreyed for you, click on that.

If there are some specifics you aren't sure of, the .zip file should have come with a README text, otherwise go back to the website and download from there.

*sorry for the late response, happy gaming *
