Ok.. I just wanna ask if anyone here has fallen for the Gamestop, "Give us $100 to secure YOUR Ps3 purchase..!" line? If you haven't already made this mistake, DONT! All they are garaunteeing for your $100 is that you are stuck buying your PS3 from THEM ! They get to deposit hundreds of thousands of dollars and are garaunteed that thousands of gamers will be stuck buying THEIR PS3's!

In case you don't know, they're allowing gamers to give them $100 deposits on PS3's but are only garaunteed to have between 8-14 units per store. 2 of THOSE are reserved for store employees! Which means they're selling the equivelant of swampland in Florida.
I've always thought Gamestop (and EBgames) were kinda slimeballs, with theirgametrades and overpriced used games, just taking advantage of gamers, but THIS is beyond wrong. Anybody else feel like they've gone too far this time? I realize that it's OUR decision wether to do it or not, I just don't think everyone realizes how bad a deal it is for the consumer. Peace.

But yeah, I kind of figured the same thing this morning as I was perusing their site. Definetly sounds fishy when they tell they they don't guarantee you'll get one at any time soon.

I will be pre-ordering my 2nd ps3 from Eb Games Canada with a 200$ deposit.

umm..... whats the big deal? you give them 100 and you have a spot in line. whats wrong there? if you decide to not get one you can just say i want my deposit back. i dont see the bad deal there or the "scam"

Ok.. let's assume that you can get a refund. After them having your $100 for a month.. along with hundreds of thousands of others, they are getting interest off that money, and it's not a small amount. Then theres the fact that most people won't ask for a refund, they'll just wait for Gamestop to get the Ps3's and buy it there <especially if Gamestop makes it remotely difficult to get thier money back.> People are lazy (actually, people aren't lazy..but they do try to do the easiest thing). It just really irks me that they are taking reservations on something that they can't deliver. Like I said, I see it as part of a larger pattern of preying on gamers in general.

The EB near my house only did 4 pre orders and I asked the guy who works there if those 4 are going to be 2 of them for the employees and he said no. That they are actually expecting 6 total on nov 17th and that the 4 we are pre-ordering are for costumers ONLY. I also spoke to the division manager about the pre-order, he said that they will call me to let me know when they get the PS3s. He said that they may call the night before or next day morning, that they still werent sure how they were going to give them out because they dont want to put people in danger of getting your PS3 stolen. So they might decide to give it out the night before and keep the things quiet. He said that with the 100 deposit I am garanteed one, but that they are not responsible if the shipment gets late, or if they actually dont receive one on nov 17th. They will be calling the list of the people who pre-order their PS3 as they were in line. So Im lucky number 3 and I hope I will get my PS3 on day one! :D

Seeing that the consumer is not being screwed over in any way but being guaranteed a ps3, it seems that you just don't like gamestop earning money.. NEWSFLASH!! That's capitalism at work; the American way. So stop bitchin' about it.

rane, in a way the consumer is being screwed because companys are taking more pre-orders than they can handle. so a lot of people think they are getting one when they are not...shops should just tell you that youre better off going elsewhere if you want one on launch but they dont...they try and suck you in to thinking "they already have my deposit, i may aswell stick with them cos il get it eventually". NEWSFLASH! shops only care about money,doesnt matter where you are from...end of story nipper

I have never had any problems with Game stop or Eb games so I wouldnt know about the preorder thing, but I have noticed that new games are 60 bucks and used are like 57.... Whats the point in buying them used??? Anyway......... I say, that if you are only getting 5 systems, for instance, than you should only accept 5 pre orders. I feel for you man. Go in and ask for your money back.
