Well, 18 months after I purchased my 60 gigabyte PS3, it stopped working. I woke up today feeling pretty good. I cleaned around the house, played with the dog, and went to the gym. All I wanted to do was play some Call of Duty 4. So, I went to my room turned on the monitor, flipped of the power switch and turned on my playstation. Before I started playing, I decided I should use the restroom in case I needed to go during the middle of an intense game of Ground War. A few minutes into punishing the toilet, I heard the *BEEP*BEEP*BEEP* sound of the PS3 shutting off. At first I thought my brother had shut it off, but then I realized that he wasn't home and the PS3 must have shut off by itself. I tried to turn the playstation back on, and it did for about 3 seconds. Then the light that should be green turned yellow, yes yellow, then flashed red. I tried again, same thing. It didn't overheat because it hadn't been played all day and the system wasn't warm to the touch. I called sony, and now I have to come up with $150 to get it fixed since my warranty has ran out. It turns out that quite a few 20 and 60 gigabyte PS3s have had the yellow light problem, so I know that it's not just me. I am very careful with my possessions, especially my PS3. I did nothing to make it stop working. So... if anyone wants to pitch in to the Fix TJ10's Playstation Fund, let me know. Just kidding. But seriously, I already miss my PS3. Now to come up with $150

ok spread this around to everyone you know who has the YLOD which is wut you have. it costs 10 dollars to fix it and it actualy works. i spent my entire saturday doing it. This is the link to the YouTube video where it shows you what to do

All you need is a heat gun, thermal compuind (local Radioshack) and time. I have never been more proud of myself ever.

Wow didn't know the ps3 had such problems. The red ring of death isn't cool at all on the 360. Speaking of which I had it for about a second freaked out and yank the power cord out of the wall(not something i suggest doing) and turned it back on red ring gone. Don't know what happened but I barely skated away from that one.
